Retina detachment

Devestating vision loss due to retina peeling on itself

Retina detachment

The retina is a very thin neuro tissue that absorbs light and converts that signal for the brain.

If the tissue develops a hole or a tear, then this tissue isn't continous anymore and there's a risk for even greater vision loss. The more a retina peels, the more vision is loss. While there are some surgeries that make an attempt at readhering that detatchment, its very important to preventively monitor and treat quickly if any suspicion arises.

Flashes and floating shadows can be a sign of a retina problem.
The only way to know if those signs are harmless is to examine the retina itself and look for any holes and detatched areas.
If there is a problem, then immediate referral to a retina surgeon is neccessary to maximize our chances at saving vision.
